Mailing Lists for the Unitarian Church, Davenport, Iowa (Quad-Cities)
The church has two general interest mailing lists: “qcuu-all” and “qcuu-forum”. The “qcuu-all” mailing list should be used as a place to make announcements
about church community business.
The “qcuu-forum” should be used for discussions, political articles, action alerts, notification of speakers and events,
controversial topics, etc.
There are also three special interest mailing lists: "qcuu-devotions" for
occasional spiritual postings from Rev. Roger Butts, "qcuu-Singletarians" for
church singles, and "qcuu-YFN" for people with young families.
Although the groups are hosted by Yahoo!, you don’t have to have a Yahoo!
account to belong to our mailing lists. All mailing lists allow participation by
subscription only, which means you have to apply for membership and be approved
by the moderator. This technique prevents most spammers from cluttering our
lists.
How to Subscribe
If you don't have a Yahoo! account:
you can subscribe to the mailing lists by emailing
webmaster@qcuu.org. Please identify yourself, give your email address, and
the mailing list(s) you wish to join. You will receive an email when you have
been subscribed.
If you do have a Yahoo! account:
sign on to Yahoo!, click on Groups, type the name of the email group in the
Find a Yahoo! Group box, then click on Search. You might have to click on the
Group name again when it is listed. Click on the Join this Group! button, fill
out the form, and click the Join button. Your membership request will be sent
for approval. You will receive an email when you have been subscribed.
Guidelines for the General Interest Lists
The following are the general principles to help you decide which of our two
general interest e-mail lists is most appropriate for a specific article or comment. These principles have evolved over several years of mailing list usage by our church community. Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome regarding mailing list usage.
Use of “QCUU-ALL”
Messages sent out on our “qcuu-all” mailing list should normally be limited to the following subject areas:
- Announcements about official church programs and events at the church.
- Announcements about life passages.
- Occasional “For sale” announcements.
- Help needed / help offered.
- Unitarian Universalist religious news items.
- Any other “church community” business.
- The electronic version of the QCU newsletter.
Use of “QCUU-FORUM”
The “qcuu-forum” mailing list was established in June 2003 specifically for use as a general-purpose discussion list.
The intent was to reduce message traffic on the original “qcuu-all” mailing list and provide a separate forum for topics
of a political, controversial, or inspirational nature and for emails that
solicit opinions likely to provoke many response emails. Those subscribed to the “qcuu-forum” mailing list should normally expect to receive the following types of e-mail from others in our church community.
- Discussions.
- Controversial topics.
- Political topics.
- Political announcements (notice of visiting speakers, etc.).
- Action alerts for various causes.
- Humor items (jokes and puns).
- Inspirational items.
